The Forum was established in 2003 by a group of postgraduate students across several disciplines in Oxford University to promote, and create an environment for, the interdisciplinary discussion of topics relating to Medical Humanities.  Since Michaelmas 2006 ΦFMH has been an Oxford University registered society.

The society's meetings are open to students and senior members from all departments and colleges, attracting an interesting mix of clinical medical students, and postgraduate students in philosophy, anthropology, history, theology, law, social sciences and natural sciences.

Professor Tony Hope, Director of the Ethox Centre, is outgoing Chairman of the Advisory Board which includes representatives from philosophy, anthropology, theology, law, history, and the medical sciences.  He will be replaced by Julian Savulescu.

The Forum organises a series of talks throughout the academic year. These include small discussion groups where doctoral students or those just starting out on an academic career present their ideas, as well as more formal speaker events given by senior academics, attracting audiences of about fifty people.
